Virgilio & The Duke

from Themes by Daniel Diaz

/

about

Composed in Buenos Aires 1995. A tribute to my one and only piano teacher, the late great Virgilio Exposito. He showed me the link between his own classic tangos (Afiches, Naranjo en Flor, etc) and Duke Ellington's compositions. I wrote this track based on that, he helped me later improve some chromaticism and subtle dissonances.
Lina Avellandeda took this composition and added her lyrics as a tribute to another tango legend: Osvaldo Pugliese. I produced an album were she recorded her version with Virgilio Exposito himself on the piano.
